Graduation FAQs

What are the requirements to graduate?

We require three tasks be completed for a student to graduate:

  1. Use the general course requirements of the Alabama Standard Diploma as a guide to what is typically required for High School graduates. These requirements provide a guideline as to what is anticipated by Colleges for student enrollment and scholarships. Consult with us should your child have learning limitations and is unable to follow these requirements. A path for graduation is our goal for all students. The general course requirements of the Alabama Standard Diploma may be found here (link).

  2. Submit the initial draft of your transcript using the required Graduating Senior transcript form (link). Please submit this early in the year to help us respond in a timely manner to your need to submit a transcript to respective colleges or other needs under consideration. We will make updates to the transcript based on our experience in dealing with college admissions and sizing the transcript to fit on one page.

  3. Choose from one of the following:

    1. Completion of the ACT or SAT

    2. Other standardized test such as CAT5, IOWA Basic Skills, or the Stanford (11th grade level)

    3. Written essay, or appropriate project proposed by Parent and approved by the school

There are plenty of testing resources for homeschooled families. Please see our Testing page to learn more.

Does the Well Academy offer an accredited diploma?

No. We cannot issue an accredited Alabama High School Diploma. Homeschooling is not accredited through the state as parents are not required to be certified teachers and the curriculum used is not audited.

What do I receive upon graduating?

We issue a High School Diploma with a High School Transcript. This will enable students to pursue college enrollment and/or employment as a high school graduate.

Higher Education

If your child desires to pursue higher education, we want to help you on that journey. Before starting down that path, we encourage families to prayerfully consider options other than college for your child’s future. Not all paths require a degree. Many successful businesses exist today because of the hard work of individuals who gained their start in business through on the job experience, self-study, and persistence.

For families that have decided to pursue higher education, please be mindful of the following:

  • Visit their desired institution’s website early and often to ensure that you are preparing them for admission into that field of study.

  • Reach out to their institution’s admissions counselor and ask what they are looking for in a high school graduate. What can you do to help your child stand out on admissions and scholarship applications?
